Young and Restless alumna Hunter King, who played Summer Newman from 2012-16 and 2018-22 and won two Daytime Emmys as Outstanding Younger Actress for her performance on the show, has kept plenty busy since exiting Genoa City a few years back. Not only did she get engaged to filmmaker Chris Copier, but she inked a multi-picture deal with the Hallmark Channel, most recently starring in Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story, a project inspired by the headline-grabbing romance of global pop superstar Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, for the network. Now, she’s booked an exciting new role on prime-time.
Welcome To The Neighborhood
Deadline made the announcement that King — along with Justin Long, Kara Royster and Angelic Cabral — will be guest-starring in the finale of the seventh season of The Neighborhood on CBS. And if the network moves ahead with its plans to spin off that show into a series of its own for the 2025-26 season, King (as well as Long, Royster and Cabral) will become series regulars on the new show. Marcel Spears and Sheaun McKinney, who are currently part of The Neighborhood‘s cast as Marty and Malcolm, respectively, would also become cast members of the spin-off.
King celebrated the big news on Instagram, writing, “Crying, screaming, throwing up🥹 thank you to @kaplanaaron and @cbstv for this amazing opportunity! This cast is unbelievable and I feel so lucky to get to act along side of them. AHHH someone pinch me!✨❤️”
The actress was quick to receive congratulations from her former Y&R colleagues, including Michelle Stafford (Phyllis), her Y&R mom, who cheered, “Yes!!!!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👏👏👏👏.” Melissa Ordway (Abby) posted, “YES!!!!! 🙌🏼 👏 Amazing!!!! Congratulations ❤️.” “👏🏽🥳♥️,” wrote Brytni Sarpy (Elena). Tracey Bregman (Lauren) offered, “Yes!!! 🙌🏻.” “So happy for you yay!!” enthused Lachlan Buchanan (ex-Kyle). Courtney Hope (Sally) wrote, “👏👏,” and Kelli Goss (ex-Courtney) chimed in with, “👏👏👏 Amazing!” Marcel Spears also showed her some love, writing, “LOVE IT!”
This will not be King’s first foray into the world of sitcoms. In fact, while she was still on Y&R, she juggled her duties as Summer with a role on the CBS comedy Life in Pieces, telling Soap Opera Digest, “I don’t consider myself a comedic actress, but I’ve always dreamed of doing comedy at some point in my career.”
Digest sends its warmest congratulations to King!
